How to drive from Helsinki to the goods harbour at Sandnäsudd
Goods transport to Strömsö goes through the goods harbour at Sandnäsudd in Tammisaari. This is also where an ice road starts to Strömsö in winter. NOTE! Always make sure the ice is strong enough before driving on the ice.

  • Take highway 51 (Helsinki–Hanko) westward

  • After Ring III, follow these instructions:

  • 60.5 km, turn left at sign to Snappertuna (road  1050)

  • 3.6 km, turn right at sign to Norrby, Rösund, Box

  • 1.6 km, turn left at sign to Sandnäsudd

  • 4.9 km, turn left at sign to Sandnäsudd

  • 3.4 km, turn left at sign to Sandnäsudd

  • 3.5 km, turn left into the car park and goods pier.

(Note: if you want to take the ice road, do not turn into the car park, but drive ahead for another 100 m to get to the ice road.)

Instead of Sandnäsudd, all passenger traffic goes through Möviken. The Sandnäsudd pier is mainly for ferrying heavy goods to Strömsö.

Stromso Harbor Locations

How to get to Strömsö by boat
Approaching from the east, take the 5.5-metre inland fairway through Barösund strait and continue for approximately 2 nm after the end of the speed limit until you arrive to Strömsö on the north side of the fairway. Steer into Strömsö harbour going either east or west round Flakholmen. The depth on the approach and by the pier is sufficient for even large boats.

Approaching from the east, you also have the option to take the southern 3.7-metre so-called Olympic fairway until it crosses the 5.5-metre inland fairway. At the crossing, turn east and steer into Strömsö harbour going either east or west round Flakholmen. The depth on the approach and by the pier is sufficient for even large boats.

Approaching from the west along the 3.0-metre inland fairway passing Tammisaari, continue until the end of the fairway where it turns south after Sandnäsudd and crosses the 5.5-metre fairway. Continue along the 5.5-metre fairway east and steer into Strömsö harbour going either east or west round Flakholmen. The depth on the approach and by the pier is sufficient for even large boats.

If you approach from the west taking the 5.5-metre fairway, pass the crossing of the 3.0 and 3.7-metre fairways, which leaves Strömsö north of the fairway. Steer into Strömsö harbour going either east or west round Flakholmen. The depth on the approach and by the pier is sufficient for even large boats.
